Dr. Leavitt is a native of Arizona. He attended k-12 in the Gilbert public school system and later went on to ASU where he received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature and linguistics. He is fluent in Spanish and has gone on several medical mission trips to Mexico where he has been able to treat underserved populations. He attended Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ for his medical school training. Upon completion of his medical degree he was accepted into a general surgery residency program at Beaumont Health in Detroit, Michigan through Michigan State University. Dr. Leavitt trained heavily in laparoscopic surgery, trauma surgery, colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, anti-reflux surgery, breast surgery, wound care, and endoscopy including EGD and colonoscopy. He is board certified to treat a wide range of medical conditions including but not limited to disorders of the gallbladder, stomach, intestines, and colon. After successfully completing his 5-year residency he was accepted at Banner Gateway Weight Loss Center in Gilbert, AZ as a bariatric fellow for 13 months where he was dedicated to learning more about obesity and its surgical treatment. He has participated in several additional courses for revisional bariatric surgery, Orbera intragastric balloon placement, and management of post operative bariatric complications. Dr. Leavitt is board certified in General Surgery and currently a member of several surgical societies including: ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons), SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons), ACOS (American College of Osteopathic Surgeons) and AOA (American Osteopathic Association). His primary hospital affiliations are with Mountain Vista Medical Center, Banner Gateway Medical Center, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Chandler Regional Medical Center, and Arizona Orthopedic and Spine Hospital.
